if
I don’t know if I’ve ever felt so capable, calm and patient. Where did this come from? Its wonderful, if perhaps a bit dull.

I’m halfway through Norman Mailer’s The Prisoner of Sex. It’s a fascinating read, I’d recommend it to most, but I’d espiecially recommend reading my particular copy of it. I bought it used at Powell’s a week or so ago. Its a pretty old version, has that old book smell and feels dated. The text itself is from the late 60’s, which only adds to the retro...

there are these mornings i have sometimes, i wake up, have tea, take it easy, the sound of everything is somehow too much and not enough and the light breaks and bends and its all so ahhhh im at most self-indulgent when i’m hungover, no doubt about it, i just write and presume to leak brilliance, a terrible presumption and ahhh ahhh. Lazy Thinking. even capitalizing words is too...

scratch
I suspect people are unable to scratch their own backs for one simple reason: when its all been said, when its all been done, when the facts are clear and all truths revealed, when all has been consumed, devoured and satisfied, when you’re finished and all washed up there pricks something beyond your control. It’s that itch you can’t reach and it can only be satisfied by another...

knowing
The blank white space possesses me today. The whole world feels blank in the most wonderful way, as though its all a canvas for my splashing about. My senses are only halfway mine though, and I can only begin to wonder why. I moved into a great new place, with some great new folks, but I dearly miss seeing the old folks in that old familiar regular way. I feel like I’ve gotten lucky not...

like we mean it
Its been official for some time now: We’re in a recession. Bummer. It’s also wintertime in Portland, Ore and that means that what little sunlight we actually do get comes filtered through layer upon layer of fog and gray. But I’ve got great news! Buried in the very heavy sounding word that captures our economic state is a nearly weightless one: Recess. And I think its...

to interrupters
The vast flatness of life is best interrupted by the people we love and the people who love us back. My interrupters distract me from the vastness and re-channel my attention onto the things that matter: things like extended discourse and each other. I know how lucky I am, but I also know thats not enough. Thank you.
